Device Requirements Overview

Bluebook supports testing on Mac and Windows devices, iPads, and school-managed Chromebooks.

Attention Windows Users: We strongly recommend upgrading to Windows 11 before Microsoft ends support of Windows 10 in October. Starting in fall 2026, Bluebook won’t work on Windows 10.

Choosing Devices

If you’re deciding between device types, consider these key factors:

  • Minimum battery life is 4 hours for AP Exams and 3 hours for SAT Suite of Assessments.

  • Chromebooks must be school managed and run in kiosk mode.

  • For Windows tablets, external keyboards are required for fully digital AP Exams and recommended for hybrid digital AP Exams. They’re strongly recommended for the SAT and PSAT-related assessments.

  • For iPads, external keyboards are required for fully digital AP Exams and recommended for hybrid digital AP Exams. They’re allowed for the SAT and PSAT-related assessments.
