Using Bluebook on Chromebooks

Because BluebookTM runs in kiosk mode, even students who use Chromebooks frequently may be unfamiliar with the experience. Make sure test coordinators and test day staff understand how Bluebook works on Chromebooks and encourage all students to practice using test taker tools before test day.

How to Open Bluebook on a Chromebook

After you use the Google Admin console to install Bluebook on Chromebooks, students can use it to preview the experience, take practice tests, complete exam setup, and take tests.

To get started, students:

  1. Turn on their Chromebook without signing in.
  2. Select Apps > Bluebook in the lower left corner of the screen.
  3. Sign in to Bluebook with their College Board student account (for AP Exams and SAT Weekend) or the credentials on their sign-in ticket (for SAT School Day or PSAT-related exams).

How to Use Accessibility Features

Students with approved accommodations use the Chromebook floating accessibility menu to use the built-in screen reader and other accessibility features. When students open Bluebook on a device that has the menu enabled, it first appears in the bottom right of the screen.

Good to Know

  • Because Bluebook runs in kiosk mode, a student’s custom settings won’t work. The floating accessibility menu must be enabled in the Google Admin console. Find out how.
  • Features available in the floating accessibility menu include ChromeVox, select-to-speak, dictation, color correction, and magnification.
  • To customize these features, students select Settings in the same menu.
  • Students should use the Toggle menu position button to move it so it doesn’t block Bluebook navigation buttons during testing.

Complete information for students is available in Accommodations and Assistive Technology.
