Prepare a School-Managed Windows or Apple Device

If you’re using a school-managed device at a school you don’t attend or at a test center, start getting ready early because you’ll need someone at your school to install Bluebook and adjust device settings.

IMPORTANT: You probably won’t have the permissions you need to fix issues on test day, and test day staff won’t either.

Who Should Follow These Instructions

Take action now if one of the following is true:

  • You’re using a school-managed device to take SAT Weekend.
  • You’re using a school-managed device to take AP Exams, SAT School Day, or PSAT-related assessments at a test center or a school you don’t attend.

If you're taking AP Exams, SAT School Day, or PSAT-related assessments at the school you attend, the school is responsible for preparing school-managed devices and you don’t need to keep reading.

What Your School Needs to Do

Your school should refer to Device Readiness info for IT for complete instructions. Complete a form, and we'll ask them to help you.

  1. Download Bluebook on your testing device if you can’t do it yourself.
  2. Make sure Bluebook is allowed to auto-update and that all other required settings are applied.

What You Need to Do

  1. Open Bluebook.
  2. Click Test Your Device.
  3. SAT Weekend and AP Exams only:
  • Sign in to Bluebook with your College Board account.
  • Check all test information on your homepage.
  • Make sure you know your College Board account credentials; Bluebook won’t save them.
  1. SAT School Day and PSAT-related assessments only:
  • Your school will give you a sign-in ticket to sign in to Bluebook; you don’t need a College Board account to take the test.
  • Ask your school about next steps for student readiness.
  1. Practice using Bluebook on your testing device and try out any accommodations you’re approved for.
  2. Take your device somewhere that’s out of range of your school and home network and connect to Wi-Fi.
  3. The week before test day:
  • Clear space if you need to.
  • SAT Weekend only: Complete exam setup. Follow the instructions in the email we send you 5 days before the test.
  1. Charge your battery.
