New Tech Requirements

Here’s a roundup of changes to Bluebook technical requirements for the 2025–26 school year. Get complete device requirements and network readiness instructions. 

Operating System Requirements

ChromeOS: The required minimum version was raised to ChromeOS 132. 

The recommended maximum will increase throughout the year as higher versions are moved to the ChromeOS stable channel.

MacOS: The required minimum version was raised to macOS 12. 

The recommended maximum was raised to macOS 26.1 and will increase throughout the year as we certify new versions. 

iPadOS: The required minimum version was raised to iPadOS 16. 

The recommended maximum was raised to iPadOS 26.0.1 and will increase throughout the year as we certify new versions. 

Windows: Our recommended version is now Windows 11. If necessary, students can test on Windows 10, but we strongly recommend upgrading because Microsoft ended support in October 2025. Starting in fall 2026, Bluebook won’t work on Windows 10.  

Enabling Verified Mode on Chromebooks

Verified mode must now be enabled on Chromebooks. This setting enhances test security and we encourage you to configure it in the Admin console before your next test administration. Learn how to enable verified mode on Chromebooks.
