How to Administer AP Calculus AB and AP Calculus BC in One Room
Learn how to administer AP Exams in Calculus AB and Calculus BC in the same room at the same time. All other AP Exams must be given in separate rooms.
Before You Start
- Important: Each exam has its own roster, room and start codes, and monitoring dashboard in Test Day Toolkit and they must be accessed separately.
- For rooms with 35 or more students, 2 proctors are required, and each needs their own device.
- For rooms with less than 35 students, you can assign just 1 proctor but they must have 2 devices.
- Bluebook administrations work only if proctors provide the correct room and start codes for each exam.
- Follow all other AP Exam policies and procedures.
How to Set Up Test Day Toolkit
The following steps supplement instructions on AP Exam Setup.
- Sign in to Test Day Toolkit and select Calculus AB.
- Create a room in Test Day Toolkit.
- Name the room in a way that indicates its location and the exam name.
- Give the room a capacity that reflects the number of students taking Calculus AB.
- For example, if 5 of the 10 students in room 202 are taking Calculus AB, create a room with a capacity of 5 and name it “202 Calculus AB.”
- Assign a proctor to the room.
- Optional: Assign students to the room.
- Repeat steps 1–4 for Calculus BC.
How to Proctor the Exams
If one proctor is assigned to the room, they’ll need to open Test Day Toolkit on two different devices.
If two proctors are assigned to the room, each proctor needs:
- Their own set of materials.
- Their own device.
- Access to Test Day Toolkit.
Before Students Arrive
- Divide the room into two areas, one for each exam.
- Sign in to Test Day Toolkit on each device and select Calculus AB or Calculus BC from the drop-down menu.
- Write check-in instructions where all students can see them.
- Write the unique room code for each exam on the board and label them clearly.
- Leave space for each exam’s start code. Reminder: Never write start codes on the board until you finish reading the script.
- If the room is large, post the instructions twice and label each with an exam name.
Starting the Test
- When students arrive, assign them to seats in the correct area.
- Explain to students that 2 exams are being administered in the room and let them know what to expect.
- Use Test Day Toolkit to monitor student check-in for each exam and mark students present.
- When students are ready to test, read the script from one device. The script is the same for both exams.
- When you finish reading the script, read the start code aloud from each device and write each on the board.
During and After the Test
- Use the Test Day Toolkit dashboard for each exam to monitor student progress.
- Read the dismissal script from one device; it’s the same for both exams.
- Collect materials, check answer submission status, and dismiss students one exam at a time.
- Separate materials for each exam.
