FAQ
How large are Bluebook data transfers?
We base Bluebook bandwidth requirements on the data transfers that make testing possible. The table below shows how the size of these data transfers varies, causing spikes in network demand when testing starts and ends.
If technology staff are concerned about network speed, consider asking some proctors to get started five minutes after others. This will help lower the spikes in network demand. For other tactics and bandwidth minimums, go to Measure Network Speed in Your Building.
Test Day Spikes in Network Demand
Spike Timing | Cause | Data Transfer Size (Approximate) |
Bluebook app launch | Bluebook may need to update when students open it, and some students may need to install it. | Chromebook: 5 MB Windows: 81 MB Mac and iPad: 5 MB |
Bluebook check-in | Duration varies, but it usually takes 5–10 minutes for students to complete check-in. | 30 MB |
Bluebook ends timed testing | When a student runs out of time, their answers are uploaded. | 5 MB |
